Serral vs Reynor

11.09.2020 18:30
(EEST, Helsinki, Finland)

Serral falls down into the Losers' Bracket as the very close series against Reynor gives him the first loss of the tournament.

Loss: Deathaura (0-1)

Five minutes into game one, Serral throws down a spire. Reynor scouts it and prepares his defenses with spores and queens. Serral gets the map control but little other damage with the mutas.

Trying to press his advantage, Serral moves out with a big roach ravager army, but can’t break down Reynors lurker defenses. Serral snipes down the fourth hatchery and retreats to his map side.

Reynor goes for a massive push and takes down a base. Serral retaliates immediately, but his forces get flanked while his unit positioning is awkward. Serral returns and takes down the hatchery he had come for initially.

Reynor moves in and takes down two bases and over 30 drones. Serral takes down Reynor’s hatch again but is ultimately unable to recover after a final lousy engagement.

Win: Ever Dream (1-1)

Visibly frustrated after the loss, Serral begins the game on Ever Dream.

It's a reverse situation from game one as Reynor goes for the muta play, and Serral produces hydralisks.

The +1 carapace upgrade works in Serral's favor when the roach forces clash. Serral gets an amazing concave, and Reynor isn't able to pierce through to Serral's territory.

Both players get the burrowed roach upgrade.

Serral's multiprong burrowed roach harassment starts to tip the scales to his favor. Also, Serral's superior upgrades pay off big time.

Serral burrows lurkers in a bad choke point and loses a part of his army, but the army supply is still in favor of the Finn.

Reynor makes the last desperation move out as lurkers join the harass to tear down his bases. It's not enough, and Serral ties the series to 1-1.

Win: Eternal Empire (2-1)

Cheese is on the menu for Eternal Empire as Serral goes for a 12 gas 11 pool. Reynor has no idea of what's coming his way and picks a hatch, gas, into a pool build, giving the Finn a tremendous build order advantage.

Serral's lings avoid getting scouted until they're already knocking on Reynor's doorstep. Serral already has banelings morphing, making it impossible for Reynor to do anything against this unexpected attack.

Loss: Pillars of Gold (2-2)

Map 4 starts calmer with mirroring builds once again.

Reynor picks off Serral's third with a ling attack and forces Serral to find damage in response or play from a significant disadvantage.

With Reynor's defenders' advantage, he can hold Serral's roach ravager ling attack, and Serral backs down.

Serral loses most of his lings to a single baneling, making it impossible for him to recover. The series is at a tie again.

Loss: Submarine (2-3)

We get an ace match! Reynor goes for a fast pool on this tiny map, while Serral goes for a hatch gas pool. We get to see a reverse situation from game three!

Reynor tries to take down the natural of Serral, but Serral makes an almost perfect hold, putting him in an advantage for the early game. Still, his hatchery has only half of its hp left, making it vulnerable to further attacks.

Reynor is unable to do much against Serral as the roaches pop out to support.

Reynor puts down a spire that remains undetected. Serral goes in for the attack, but Reynor's mutas are already out.

Serral keeps denying the third hatch of Reynor.

Serral moves out with his army, which is superior in upgrades and supply. However, it isn't enough when Reynor gets good connections with banelings and finishes the army off with his mutalisk force. Serral loses the game, and with it, the first series of the tournament.
